China once again urged the United States to lift its blockade and sanctions against Cuba immediately, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said in Beijing on Thursday.
Guo responded to a question at a regular briefing regarding the UN General Assembly's overwhelming adoption on Wednesday of a draft resolution titled "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba."
"The illegal economic embargo and unilateral economic sanctions imposed by the United States on Cuba have lasted for 64 years, bringing profound suffering to the Cuban people. Since 1992, the UN General Assembly has adopted the resolution 'Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba' for 34 consecutive times with an overwhelming majority. This reflects the strong indignation of the vast majority of countries in the world at the U.S.' serious violation of the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and conveys the clear and unified voice of the international community demanding the U.S. immediately stop its acts that seriously violate the Cuban people's rights to subsistence and development. China will continue to firmly support Cuba's just struggle to safeguard national sovereignty and national dignity and to oppose external interference and blockade, and once again urges the U.S. to earnestly heed the just calls of the international community, immediately stop its blockade and sanctions against Cuba, and immediately stop coercing and pressuring Cuba by any means, including the use of force," said Guo.
