Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq will pay a state visit to China from November 1 to 2 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Friday at a press conference in Beijing.
"This visit is Sultan Haitham's first trip to China since he assumed office, and also the first visit to China by an Omani head of state in the 48 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations. It is of great significance to the development of bilateral relations," Guo told reporters.
During the visit, President Xi will hold talks with Sultan Haitham and have an in-depth exchange of views with him on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. Chinese Premier Li Qiang will also meet with Sultan Haitham, Guo said.
Gu said China and Oman share a deep traditional friendship.
In recent years, he said, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and Sultan Haitham, the two countries have continuously consolidated political mutual trust, steadily advanced mutually beneficial cooperation, and increasingly promoted people-to-people and cultural exchanges, while maintaining sound communication in international and regional affairs.
China is ready to work with Oman to take this visit as an opportunity to promote greater progress in the two countries' strategic partnership, Guo said.
