CPC stays vigilant against potential dangers in persevering with full, rigorous Party self-governance: official

The longer the Communist Party of China (CPC) governs, the longer the period of stability, and the more complex the environment, the more necessary it is for the CPC to stay strongly vigilant against potential dangers and persevere with full and rigorous Party self-governance, a senior official said in Beijing Friday.

Speaking at a press conference, Tang Fangyu, head of the Policy Research Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted guiding principles from the fifth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, which was held in Beijing from Monday to Thursday.

There were three main considerations for the CPC Central Committee in making systematic plans for persevering with full and rigorous Party self-governance at the session, according to Tang.

The first was adapting to the needs in advancing the Party's cause and to the development of the country and changes in domestic and international situations.

Driven by missions and responsibilities of the CPC as a Marxist governing party, persevering with full and rigorous Party self-governance is an essential requirement for preserving the CPC's advanced nature and integrity, consolidating the Party's long-term governing position, and ensuring steady and sustained progress in the cause of the Party and the country, said the official.

"Profound changes in global, national, and Party conditions have brought many new circumstances and new issues, making the Party's tasks of uniting and leading the people in safeguarding China's sovereignty, security, and development interests, of uniting and leading the people in promoting reform and development and maintaining social harmony and stability, and of maintaining its advanced nature and integrity even more arduous," Tang said.

"All this poses formidable challenges to the Party's governance and leadership capacity, the quality of its membership, and its resistance against corruption and moral decline under the new circumstances. The longer the Party governs, the longer the period of stability is, and the more complex the environment is, the more necessary it is for the CPC to be strongly vigilant against potential dangers and persevere with full and rigorous Party self-governance," he noted.

Another consideration was "actively responding to expectations of the Party and all Chinese people. Since last year and through letters, visits, online messages and other channels, CPC members, officials and the people offered opinions on making the CPC stronger by summarizing and applying the valuable experiences in full and rigorous Party self-governance since the 18th CPC National Congress. The support of Party members and officials as well as the expectations of the people are the driving force for the Party to move forward," said the official.

"It is also a usual practice regarding major decisions of the Party central committee. Since the launch of reform and opening up, each CPC Central Committee has arranged one plenary session to study and make plans for Party building. This has become an effective institutional arrangement," the official continued.

Tang said the plenary session conveyed three signals.

"First, it conveyed the clear attitude and persistent pursuit of the CPC as a Marxist governing party in upholding the Party's ideal, nature and purpose. Second, it conveyed the Party's ambition and sense of responsibility in building a great country and advancing national rejuvenation on all fronts through Chinese modernization. Third, it conveyed the Party's firm confidence and strong resolve in courageously facing issues and problems and persevering with full and rigorous Party self-governance with higher standards and more practical measures," he said.

"Judging from the extensive coverage by domestic and foreign media in recent days, the conveyance of these signals has generally been positive and strong," said Tang.

Xinjiang's Kashgar has embraced the spirit of autumn with an intangible cultural heritage event that brings customs and traditions to life amid the city's seasonal scenery.

The lively heritage event has drawn large crowds and boosted rural tourism consumption. Townships have set up specialty markets where residents sell plateau produce, handicrafts and local delicacies.

With snow-capped mountains in the distance, visitors enjoy authentic local experiences in the foreground.

"You can't find this atmosphere back home. I love its food culture, local people and natural landscapes. When you open the door in the morning, you see snowy mountains and golden sunrise peaks. It's incredibly beautiful," said Zhang Tianhong, a tourist from southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
