Yemen's Houthi group said on Monday that the Saudi-led coalition had carried out 109 airstrikes against several provinces in Yemen over the past 24 hours.
Houthi sources said coalition airstrikes hit Saada, Amran and Taiz provinces on Monday evening. Strikes in Taiz killed two children and two women and wounded two other people, they said.
Houthi-run al-Masirah TV also reported the same day that a market in the Al-Makhaaf area of Al-Misrakh district, south of Taiz city, was attacked, killing at least 10 people and wounding dozens.
Saudi authorities and Yemen's government had not commented on the reports.
The Houthis also said in a statement on Monday evening that they had carried out two drone attacks on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, over the previous 48 hours, disrupting flight operations. The statement said the group had also hit an early-warning radar in the Saudi city of Jazan and attacked a military transport aircraft at the city’s airport.
Yemeni government military spokesman Majid al-Nuzaili said on Monday evening that government forces had conducted 951 operations against the Houthis in the previous 24 hours, targeting assembly points, defensive positions and military equipment. He said about 332 Houthi commanders and fighters had been killed or wounded. The operations covered the northern front, Jawf, Marib and Al-Bayda provinces, and southern and southwestern fronts.
Sources in the government military said the same day that the Houthi advance had brought the group to within 80 kilometers of Aden, the country's interim capital. They said it was the closest the Houthis had come to the city since briefly entering it in 2015. The advance threatens the road linking Aden with the besieged city of Taiz and could give the Houthis a chance to flank government forces from mountain areas overlooking the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Saudi-led coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki said Monday that air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile fired toward southern areas.
