Chinese electric motorcycle factories in Jiangmen City in south China's Guangdong Province are capitalizing on the ongoing 140th Canton Fair, attracting global buyers for its complete industrial chains and innovation capabilities.
The 140th edition of the China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, runs in three phases in south China's Guangzhou City from Oct. 15 to Nov. 4, with more than 30,000 exhibiting companies and about 340,000 overseas buyers expected to attend.
Encouraged by the fair, many foreign purchasers have traveled to Jiangmen to visit local motorcycle factories. Some plants are receiving more than a dozen overseas buyers each day.
"The Canton Fair is one of our factory's primary channels for acquiring new customers. About 80 percent of the clients who visited our facility lately came through the Canton Fair. This year, we've seen clearly that a significant number of our clients are showing interest in electric motorcycles," said Wang Jing, deputy general manager of the Overseas Department of a local motorcycle company.
Long-range electric models equipped with dual-battery systems have particularly attracted attentions.
"With two batteries and good capacity of kilometers, 200 kilometers, it's a good business in Brazil. I think this is a new market for us," said a Brazilian buyer.
For many overseas buyers, the well-established after-sales service systems and assembly capabilities of Jiangmen's motorcycle companies are key factors in finalizing the deals.
"Its quality, along with its entire system, including after-sales service, [is impressive.] The company has a service center and an assembly facility in Southeast Asia, which greatly facilitates our operations in that region," said a buyer from Malaysia.
Known as the country's "motorcycle capital," Jiangmen is experiencing a surge in exports as global riders increasingly recognize the quality of Chinese-made motorcycles.
Last year, Jiangmen's motorcycle output reached over 5.4 million units, with exports surpassing 21 billion yuan (about 3.08 billion U.S. dollars), a year-on-year increase of over 40 percent. The city's motorcycle exports accounted for nearly a quarter of the national total.
