China stands ready to work with the United States to fulfill the significant consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Wednesday.
Democrats are projected to flip control of the U.S. Senate after winning several key races in battleground states, securing control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections, election forecasting agency Decision Desk HQ reported late Tuesday.
When asked to comment on U.S. midterm elections at a press briefing in Beijing, Mao noted the midterm elections are a domestic matter for the United States.
"The midterm elections are an internal affair of the United States. China is willing to continue working with the United States to uphold and implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen communication, properly manage differences, expand cooperation, and build a 'constructive, strategic and stable China-U.S. relationship based on respect, fairness and reciprocity'," said Mao.
