Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with visiting Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in Beijing on Friday, where the two leaders jointly announced the elevation of bilateral ties to a China-Gabon community with a shared future for the new era.

Noting that changes unseen in a century are unfolding across the world at a faster pace, Xi said deepening China-Gabon relations meets the shared expectations of the two peoples and follows the trend of the Global South seeking strength through unity.

He said China is willing to be a reliable friend and partner in Gabon's independent development, support Gabon's political, economic and diplomatic autonomy, and work with Gabon to build a China-Gabon community with a shared future for the new era.

Highlighting mutual support between China and Gabon, Xi said China will, as always, support Gabon in exploring a development path suited to its national conditions, increase exchanges and share governing experiences.

Xi called on both countries to better align development strategies, foster new drivers of growth in cooperation, and seize new opportunities such as the "zero tariff" policy and the "green channel" for African agricultural and food products entering the Chinese market, so as to expand and upgrade trade and investment cooperation.

Xi said China supports Gabon in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs, and looks forward to increasing exchanges and cooperation with Gabon.

Highlighting over half a century of Gabon-China friendship, Nguema said his country firmly adheres to the one-China principle.

He said Gabon looks forward to further deepening practical cooperation with China and welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest in the country.

Nguema praised China's zero-tariff policy as historic for African development.

Gabon highly appreciates China's advocacy of multilateralism and fair positions on international affairs, said Nguema.

Nguema noted that Gabon stands ready to work closely with China to deepen Africa-China solidarity and cooperation and jointly safeguard the interests of Global South countries.

After the talks, the two presidents jointly witnessed the signing of multiple cooperation documents covering the implementation of the Global Security Initiative, zero tariffs, industrial and supply chains, and Chinese-language education. The two sides issued a joint statement on building the China-Gabon community with a shared future for the new era.

Xi hosted a welcome banquet for Nguema at the Great Hall of the People Friday evening.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump are working to shift the two countries' military relationship from "aid" to "partnership", the Israeli Prime Minister's Office said in a statement posted on X on Friday.

The statement marked Israel's first formal response to the proposed termination of U.S. security assistance.

The office said U.S. military aid to Israel has long been a bipartisan consensus in Washington, and that Israel has used the assistance for self-defense and to confront "enemies who threaten America and the West."

Noting that Israel now has a strong and stable economy, the statement framed the change as a sign of the relationship's maturity. "The move by PM Netanyahu and President Trump from aid to partnership shows the strength and sophistication of our relationship, and its ability to adapt and stand strong over time," it said.

Friday's statement followed an announcement Trump made on Tuesday, as Americans voted in the midterm elections, that he would end about 4 billion U.S. dollars in annual military aid to Israel by year's end, a move he said he and Netanyahu had agreed on a month earlier. The decision caught Israeli officials off guard, drawing surprise and concern.

Under the current U.S.-Israel 10-year security assistance agreement, signed during the Obama administration, Washington provides Israel with about 3.8 billion U.S. dollars a year. The arrangement runs until 2028, and the two sides had already begun talks on extending it.
