A young entrepreneur from China's Taiwan region has developed a thriving career and enjoyed a fulfilling life after moving to the city of Xiamen on the Chinese mainland.
Shou Yen-Hsuan, who moved to the coastal city in east China's Fujian Province, is operating two medical institutions now.
In 2002, Shou's father saw the vast market opportunities in the Chinese mainland and established a health management center in Xiamen.
When the young man graduated from high school in 2007, he followed his father's suggestion and ventured into the Chinese mainland for broader opportunities.
"Xiamen, as a special economic zone, experienced a booming growth at that time. My father told me that if I had ambitious goals, I should come to the mainland to study and develop my career, since the city has a promising future that offers infinite possibilities," said Shou.
Shou felt a deep connection to local climate, dialect, and culture in Xiamen. The city's favorable business environment and supportive policies for Taiwan entrepreneurs also made him feel at home.
"You don't have to run around to renew documents or handle procedures; everything can be done at one window. Xiamen has many innovative measures and pilot programs for cross-Strait integration. For instance, doctors who obtain their licenses in Taiwan can directly apply for professional qualification recognition on the mainland, allowing them to receive corresponding medical titles here," he introduced.
He has not only built a successful career but also started a family in Xiamen.
Last September, his eldest son began attending a local public elementary school, while his younger son was enrolled in a nearby kindergarten.
From adaption to integration, Shou's bold move 17 years ago has profoundly impacted his life, making him grateful for the choice he made.
"Choosing to develop my career on the mainland was the most correct decision I've made so far in my life. The stay here has broadened my horizons. I've realized my dreams, experienced love and started a family here. I also have a bright future here. I feel deeply proud of being a Chinese. I'm eager to see more young people from Taiwan coming to the mainland, since the opportunities and prospect here will far exceed their imagination," said the businessman.
