People across China have witnessed earth-shaking changes over the past few decades, as the country has scored rapid economic growth during this period.

Social progress and scientific and technological development have jointly contributed to the qualitative changes of Chinese people's living standards. When talking with China Media Group (CMG), people from all corners of the country shared their personal experience and stories about the rapid development of their motherland.

"There are robot waiters in various kinds of hotels. And driverless cars are also possible. All of these were unimaginable before. China is developing so fast now. Maybe cars can fly in the sky in 10 years. Smart things will get smarter," said Zhang Qian, resident in Tianjin Municipality in north China.

"On the one hand, our country maintains stable economic development, and on the other hand, the infrastructure is getting better and better. Even in some small towns, the infrastructure is very beautiful. In particular, to my great surprise, some small counties in mountainous areas have managed rivers and streets very well, and many places have been paved with pedestrian paths and running tracks," said Zhang Yongqiang who was attending a running activity in Beijing.

"We were just self-sufficient in the past, but now we can make embroidery into products. Thanks to the poverty alleviation policies introduced by our Party and country, we can earn money through embroidery, so that we have more income. Mothers can return their hometown to work, so that left-behind children can get better care," said Peng Yi, a resident in Huawu Village in Guizhou Province.

Tien Huei-sheng comes from Taiwan and now is a street vendor in a market of Shengyang, capital city of Liaoning Province in northeast China.

The vendor has been running the business there for more than 10 years, and also experienced the tremendous changes of the city.

"It's changed quite a bit. I've been here for over 10 years. When I came here, there were only two subway lines in Shenyang, Line 1 and Line 2. Over the years, the number has risen to five to six. So the city has changed quite a lot, and our motherland has been progressing rapidly," said Tien.

Xia Zefu, a visually impaired runner, joined a charity running group more than one year ago and embarked on a new journey of life with the assistance of guides.

"I couldn't even think about it before, and I couldn't believe it that the blind can run. It was even difficult for us to go out. Later, I joined a charity running group. Even though it's only been established for two years, there seem to be hundreds of runners there. It has really changed my life completely," said Xia.

Li Aijun, a resident of Haikou City in southern island province of Hainan, recalled the unforgettable moment when China launched the space lab module Mengtian on Oct 31, 2022.

Li said that she is proud of her motherland.

"On October 31, 2022, the space lab module Mengtian was launched in Wenchang, and I watched it at the scene. I burst into tears at the moment it was launched. When I shot it with my phone, my hands were shaking, and I cried," she said.

The world's first 20-megawatt offshore wind turbine was successfully installed in east China's Fujian Province on Tuesday, making it the first offshore wind turbine of this kind in the country to be installed, according to its developer China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG).

Once connected to the grid, the wind turbine is expected to generate more than 80 million kWh of electricity annually, which can meet the yearly power demand of around 44,000 households, while saving approximately 24,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 64,000 tons.

The wind turbine is located more than 30 kilometers offshore in waters exceeding 40 meters in depth. Installation faced multiple challenges, including a narrow construction window during the monsoon season, complex sea conditions and high risks associated with high-altitude operations.

To overcome the difficulties, the construction team deployed a fourth-generation wind power installation vessel with a lifting capacity of 2,000 tons. Supported by high-precision positioning and intelligent pile-driving control systems, the team steadily lifted three 147-meter-long blades to a height of 174 meters, accurately connecting them to the hub. The completed rotor has a diameter of 300 meters and a swept area equivalent to nearly 10 standard football fields.

The turbine is part of a national key research and development program, with all its major components independently developed and produced in China.
