Cultural performances were staged on Sunday at a major park in the Macao Special Administrative Region to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its return to the motherland.

The performances were held by the Macao Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), an association with a long history of patriotic traditions. The program included songs by well-known singers, dances by children and professionals, and poetry recitations.

"In the future, we will better stabilize the development of 'one country, two systems' and move forward steadily. Then we will also develop our traditional patriotic spirit as a Macao community, leading our people and residents to better embrace the country and integrate into the overall development of our country," said Chio Lan Ieng, vice president of FAOM.

Audiences said Macao has made great progress in society, economy, and education over the last quarter-century under the "one country, two systems" policy.

"Macao youth can also expand their knowledge and have a better understanding of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Then, in the future, they can work in the GBA or make some contributions to the region. These are all contributions to our country," said Ng Chi Cheng, a student at the region's Lou Hau High School.

"After Macao's return to the motherland, every one of us is very excited. Macao is not only improving economically, but also in terms of environment and education. We feel happy every day. I hope we can witness a better life and see our Macao getting better and better," said resident Chan Mei Ieng.

Spanning 56,000 square kilometers, with a total economic output of over 14 trillion yuan (around 1.92 trillion U.S. dollars) in 2023, the GBA encompasses the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, along with nine cities in south China's Guangdong Province.

An oil tanker flagged to Pakistan has entered the Gulf of Oman after transiting the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first crude vessel to leave the Persian Gulf since the United States imposed a blockade on Monday, ship‑tracking data showed.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital artery for global energy, with nearly one‑fifth of the world's oil passing through its narrow waters. Data from VesselFinder showed the tanker Shalamar sailing south of Iran's Larak Island late Thursday, carrying about 450,000 barrels of crude loaded at the UAE's Das Island terminal. The vessel, owned by the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, was listed as bound for Karachi.

The U.S. has imposed the blockade on Monday after peace talks in Islamabad collapsed, deploying more than 15 warships to intercept vessels bound for Iranian ports while allowing transit to non‑Iranian destinations.
