Xi holds welcome ceremony for visiting Sri Lankan president

Chinese President Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for visiting Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday.

Dissanayake is on a state visit to China from Jan 14 to 17 at the invitation of Xi.

At the welcome ceremony, the military band played the national anthems of Sri Lanka and China, and a 21-gun salute was fired.

Dissanayake, accompanied by Xi, reviewed the Guard of Honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and watched a march-past of the Guard of Honor.

Also attending the welcome ceremony were Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and also director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, and other senior Chinese officials.

Dissanayake's entourage includes Sri Lanka's ministers of foreign affairs, foreign employment and tourism, transport, highways, ports, and civil aviation, among other senior officials.

Myanmar exported 305,821 tons of rice and broken rice in the first two months of the current fiscal year 2026-27, which began in April, according to the Myanmar Rice Federation on Sunday.

The Southeast Asian country earned about 93 million U.S. dollars from the exports during the period, the federation said.

According to the federation's data, rice exports in April and May this fiscal year were lower than the over 400,000 tons exported during the same period last fiscal year.
