China Media Group (CMG) launched its "World Robot Skills Competition" in Beijing on Thursday, unveiling the inaugural "Robot Dog Athletics Competition" alongside a promotional video that highlighted humanoid robots' impressive impact resistance.

The video, which features humanoid robots performing push-ups, withstanding kicks and hits, and even breaking rocks on their chests, demonstrates the robots' ability to endure extreme conditions thanks to the cutting-edge design and durability.

As part of CMG's broader initiative to position itself as a key player in the global robotics sector, this competition will provide a premier platform for top research teams from around the world to foster innovation and showcase cutting-edge robotic technology.

The competition will kick off with robot skills contests, followed by a series of themed challenges and a grand closing ceremony. It will include three main categories: physical competitions, skill challenges, and intelligent interactions, designed to highlight robots' full range of technical abilities and real-world applications.

As the first event of the competition, the "Robot Dog Athletics Competition" will see quadruped robots compete in athletic contests, navigate all-terrain obstacle courses, engage in boxing matches, and perform rescue operations, demonstrating their versatility and agility in diverse, dynamic scenarios.

Additionally, CMG will introduce the "CMG Robotics Innovation Experience Camp" as part of its "Science and Tourism" initiative, accompanied by a series of multimedia products to showcase the vast potential of the robotics industry and provide an immersive look at the future of intelligent technology.

China's second domestically built large cruise ship, the Adora Flora City, will carry out the lifeboat release test on Tuesday, according to the shipbuilder, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).

The large cruise ship is scheduled to undock on March 20 for the next test phase of dockside mooring, and sea trials are planned in late May, said the shipbuilder.

The primary objective of a lifeboat release test aims to verify the seamless release of the lifeboats from the vessel.

Following the release, a maneuvering trial will also be carried out to assess the lifeboats' operational performance and confirm it meets all required safety standards.

With a gross tonnage of 141,900 tonnes, the cruise ship represents a further step forward in China's large cruise ship construction capability.

Compared with the country's first domestically built large cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, the new vessel features a series of design and construction upgrades.

According to the shipbuilder, the ship is 17.4 meters longer, offers expanded public areas and enhanced onboard comfort.

The Adora Flora City is expected to be delivered by the end of 2026.
