At the annual "two sessions" in Beijing, deputies to the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) shared groundbreaking advancements in their respective fields, ranging from green technology to cultural heritage and workforce development.
Li Changdong, an NPC deputy from the Guangdong delegation and president of Guangdong Brunp Recycling Technology Co., Ltd., revealed a major milestone in the industry. He explained that used lithium iron phosphate batteries were previously unprofitable to recycle due to their low residual value, deterring industry interest. However, through persistent innovation, his team achieved a global first by industrializing the regeneration of phosphoric iron materials while generating economic benefits.
"After five years and dozens of technical approaches, we achieved a breakthrough in 2024, enabling short-process extraction of phosphorus, iron, and lithium from lithium iron phosphate batteries to successfully produce phosphoric iron," said Li at a group meeting of the delegation of Guangdong Province on Thursday.
Hang Kan, an NPC deputy and director of the Yungang Grottoes Research Institute, outlined ambitious plans to enhance the visitor experience at the Yungang Grottoes - a UNESCO World Heritage site in Datong City, north China's Shanxi Province. He highlighted upcoming initiatives, including the construction of a digital museum, aimed at leveraging cutting-edge technology to preserve and promote the site's cultural significance.
"This year, we plan to start building a digital museum to provide visitors with better services. With our current data collection, we've achieved a precision of 0.03 millimeters, and our full-scale replicas are extremely popular wherever they are exhibited," said Hang at a group meeting of the delegation of Shanxi Province on Saturday.
Regarding employment, Wang Bin, an NPC deputy and director of Jiangsu Province's Human Resources and Social Security Department, emphasized Jiangsu's role as a major hub for jobs. He unveiled a new initiative, the "Skills Light the Future" vocational training program, designed to equip workers with high-demand skills.
"We plan to conduct large-scale skills training over five years, targeting rural surplus labor and urban migrant workers. Focusing on the skill gaps and training needs of college graduates who have not yet found employment after leaving school, we aim to train more than 100,000 college graduates annually, helping young people, including university students, enhance their employment skills," said Wang at a group meeting of the delegation of Jiangsu Province on Saturday.
The "two sessions" refer to the annual meetings of China's highest organ of state power, the National People's Congress (NPC), and the country's top political advisory body, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
