Preparations for the fifth China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) in south China's island province of Hainan are set for its opening on April 13 to 18, focusing on enriching consumption scenarios, offering more products to appeal to consumers, and expanding their demands.

CICPE will take place at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, which is the main venue. The booth setup in eight halls has been largely completed, including the Consumer Technology Hall, Fashion Lifestyle Hall, and Domestic Brands Hall.

The expo has established an artificial intelligence (AI) zone for the first time, covering around 300 square meters and showcasing cutting-edge AI technologies. Various AI-powered robots, including humanoid robots and robot dogs, are already positioned. They will interact with visitors through performances and interactive sessions during the expo.

Meanwhile, the expo will unveil its first low-altitude economy zone, with industry-leading companies showcasing various drones and flying cars.

Chinese start-up company United Aircraft Group will display its innovative unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) - a new type of helicopter.

"This UAV can carry a payload of about 200 kilograms, operate at altitudes exceeding 6,000 meters above sea level, and maintain flights lasting up to six hours," explained Ji Huayan, the company's brand director.

Zeng Rong, chief economist of the Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development, said, "We all know that we need to boost consumption and expand domestic demand now, so for this year's expo, we have put a lot of effort into innovating consumer scenarios and enriching our consumer products. For instance, this year, we have significantly expanded our offerings in technology consumption, green consumption, smart consumption, low-altitude economy, and health consumption."

This year's expo will feature over 1,700 consumer companies and more than 4,100 consumer brands from 71 countries and regions with strong interest from major international brands companies. Britain is the guest country of honor this year with its dedicated zone.

"The expo has offered us a great opportunity and platform for Chinese entrepreneurs, consumers, and investors to directly engage with British companies. Particularly given the current international context, I consider this a crucial moment to boost bilateral trade for our country," said Caroline Wilson, British Ambassador to China.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that Ukraine stands ready to agree to security guarantees based on NATO's Article 5 as part of a compromise in the peace process, according to media reports.

"From the very beginning, Ukraine's desire was to join NATO, these are real security guarantees. Some partners from the United States and Europe did not support this direction," the Ukrinform news agency quoted Zelensky.

Zelensky said Article 5-like guarantees from the United States and from European partners, as well as from other countries, "would provide an opportunity to prevent another arrival of Russian troops." He also called it "a compromise on our part."

Zelensky said he was not yet ready to disclose specific details of the proposed security guarantees, saying they would be known in a day or two.

Ukrainian president arrived in Berlin on Sunday afternoon for talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other European leaders.

German newspaper Bild reported that Zelensky may also hold talks with representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump, but did not elaborate further.

According to Ukrinform, Zelensky said the same day that Ukraine must be prepared for any possible developments regarding elections.

"I asked our partners to assist with the security situation if elections are held, and I said that lawmakers should prepare options for how this could be implemented if the situation develops in that direction. They should work out, in the near future, options for holding elections," he said in a statement in response to journalists' questions.

He said he had received "signals" from the United States and President Trump regarding Ukraine's presidential election.
