General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam hosted a welcome ceremony for visiting General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the presidential palace square in Hanoi on Monday afternoon.
Xi arrived in Hanoi earlier in the day for a two-day state visit at the invitation of To Lam and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong.
National flags of the two countries fluttered in the square, as more than 200 Vietnamese children waved flowers and flags to warmly welcome Xi.
Upon his arrival at the presidential palace square, Xi was warmly greeted by To Lam at the motorcade drop-off point, and a Vietnamese child presented Xi with a bouquet.
Afterwards, Xi and To Lam ascended the reviewing stand together.
The military band played the national anthems of both countries, and a 21-gun salute was fired.
Accompanied by To Lam, Xi reviewed the Guard of Honor of Vietnam.
The general secretaries of the two ruling parties shook hands with each other's accompanying delegation members before watching the Guard of Honor march-past.
Following the welcome ceremony, Xi and To Lam walked together to the CPV headquarters for talks.
Along the route to the venue, hundreds of local residents waved flags of the two parties and the two countries to express their warmest welcome, and Xi responded with a wave to the crowd.
