Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Shanghai Foundation Model Innovation Center, a large-model incubator during his inspection tour in Shanghai on Tuesday.

Established in Shanghai's Xuhui District in September 2023, the Shanghai Foundation Model Innovation Center is an incubator and accelerator for large-scale AI models. It is now home to more than 100 enterprises.

It has formed a complete industrial chain for AI development, covering chip design, AI algorithm, date analysis, and applications in various industries.

Through collaboration with other key institutions including the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the Shanghai Innovation Institute, and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the center plays an important role in the country's AI industry that integrates infrastructure, data, human resources development and innovation.

Xi's inspection tour came four days after China's leadership convened a dedicated AI study session, where the president called for gaining a head start in this strategic sector.
