The first overseas exhibition of the 2025 China Yiwu International Commodities Fair, also known as Yiwu Fair, in Indonesia has seen record numbers both in participants and deals. The exhibition is being held from Thursday to Saturday in Jakarta, capital city of Indonesia.

The event features thousands of kinds of small commodities showcased by more than 100 Chinese exhibitors at 150 booths that cover a total area of 5,000 square meters.

"Indonesia is quite a large market. We don't have many clients here, so it's kind of a 'blue ocean.' We have been busy for the entire morning. There have been a lot of visitors, and many of them are very interested in our products," said Du Yunyan, an exhibitor.

The three-day exhibition, running at the Jakarta International Expo, has attracted tens of thousands of visitors to check out products from Yiwu, the world's largest small commodities market in east China's Zhejiang Province.

"Firstly, the scale of China's businesses is large, so they must be efficient. The Chinese products have competitive prices and the quality of the Chinese products is getting better and better. And the continuity is good because of the reliable supply chains. I think the Chinese products are better than those from many other countries," said an Indonesian perfumes and cosmetics buyer.

At a booth showcasing Christmas decorations that blend in local cultural elements, three Indonesian buyers discussed the product samples for a long time and finally reached a cooperation intention with the exhibitor.

"We want to discuss again with our team. If they agree, we can make the customers the parcel paper, and we do order," said buyer Menah.

In the first quarter of the year, Yiwu's exports to Indonesia reached 2.62 billion yuan (about 362 million U.S. dollars), up 6.6 percent year on year, customs data showed.

This year's Yiwu Fair in Indonesia welcomed more than 20,000 visitors on its first day, doubling that of last year's edition, according to organizers of the event.

"The exhibition in Indonesia is now in its third year which grows year by year. This year, the number of buyers that we invited, the number of buyers who are in attendance, and the number of deals reached during the event, have all reached new highs," said Xu Chengzhi, secretary of the board of directors of Yiwu China Commodities City Exhibition Company.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Monday that the situation in Iran is "under total control" following violence linked to protests that spiked over the weekend.

Addressing foreign diplomats in Tehran, the foreign minister noted that armed terrorist groups had infiltrated the protests, attempting to divert them from their legitimate course. He claimed that evidence has been gathered showing Iranian security forces being shot at, with the aim of causing further casualties. He accused the United States and Israel of exploiting the unrest to interfere in Iran's internal affairs.

Araghchi further stated that the government is closely monitoring developments on the streets, emphasizing that "the situation has come under control." He also affirmed that internet services, curtailed during the unrest, would be restored after coordination with security agencies.

The government has engaged in dialogue with merchants and protest representatives and initiated reforms to address grievances related to price hikes and currency depreciation. Iran has taken a series of actions and measures to respond to the demands of peaceful demonstrators, the foreign minister said.

Earlier on Sunday, Araghchi said that clear evidence links recent riots and vandalism of public facilities in Iran to the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. This came after former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo mentioned Mossad agents operating on Iran's streets in a social media post. The Iranian foreign minister asserted that police are being attacked by "terrorists" acting under the direction of Israeli operatives, whom Pompeo publicly acknowledged.

The protests initially erupted over a sharp depreciation of the rial and sweeping subsidy reforms. Iranian authorities have blamed the unrest on foreign-linked agents and U.S. sanctions.
