The ongoing 9th International Symposium on Rose Research and Cultivation, for the first time in Beijing, is eye-feasting for visitors, with stunning views and different kinds of roses from China and worldwide.

The event opened Sunday in western Beijing's Mentougou District with a sprawling 230,000-square-meter outdoor rose-themed science and exhibition garden and an indoor exhibition hall.

The open-air garden features seven exhibition areas - three from major Chinese cities Beijing, Zhengzhou, and Nanyang (two cities of central China's Henan Province), and four with international flair. The Beijing garden spans 1,500 square meters.

In the garden of Nanyang, which is hailed as "the hometown of Chinese roses," floral arrangements showcase the region's thousand-year history of rose cultivation.

The Zhengzhou garden, built on a traditional symmetrical axis, blends rose-filled pavilions and flowing streams.

Crossing from domestic to international gardens, visitors can stroll through France's kitchen-style rose garden, where roses grow beside vegetables like lettuce and purple-leaf rapeseed.

Other international sections also showcase gardens from Italy, the United States, and Japan, each offering an immersive floral journey into their unique cultures.

The event is the world's foremost and largest comprehensive international event in the field of roses, and it marks the first time the event has occurred in China since its inception 46 years ago.

A rare sight of a wolf pack traversing a mountain valley together was recorded after snowfall in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, signaling ecological recovery.

Two striking black wolves, a seldom-seen color variation, stand out distinctly in the pack at the Tomur Peak National Nature Reserve in the Tianshan Mountains.

Conservationists said that the stable presence of a wolf pack is no coincidence. In recent years, the reserve has strengthened ecological protection, improving habitats and allowing wildlife populations to recover. As apex predators, wolves return only when prey species and the broader ecosystem are thriving -- clear evidence that Tomur's conservation efforts are paying off.
