China urges US to cease discriminatory trade measures

China on Thursday once again urged the United States to immediately correct its wrongdoings of abusing export control measures, and cease discriminatory measures against China.

Ministry of Commerce spokeswoman He Yongqian called on the U.S. to work with China to honor the consensus reached between the two countries during their economic and trade talks in Geneva, Switzerland, earlier this month, when responding to a media query about any further China-U.S. communication on trade issues following the Geneva talks.

"Since the economic and trade talks between China and the United States in Geneva, the two sides have maintained communication on their respective concerns in economy and trade at multiple levels on multilateral and bilateral occasions. Recently, China has repeatedly made demarches to the U.S. side over its abuse of export control measures in the semiconductor field, among other practices," He said.

"China once again urges the United States to immediately correct its erroneous moves, cease its discriminatory restrictive measures against China, and jointly safeguard the consensus reached at the high-level talks in Geneva with China," said the spokeswoman.

During their high-level meeting in Geneva on May 10 and 11, China and the United States agreed to roll back most of their recent tariffs and call a 90-day suspension in a trade conflict initiated by the U.S.

However, the United States has since announced new export control measures to curb the development of China's semiconductor industry, undermining the consensus reached between the two countries in their Geneva talks.

China's movie industry is increasingly deriving its earnings from broader consumer economy.

Released during the 2025 summer season, the film "Nobody" became China's highest-grossing two-dimensional animated film -- and its success went beyond theaters.

Through licensing and brand partnerships, the movie has generated 2.5 billion yuan (about 358.3 million U.S. dollars) in retail sales to consumers, with more than 800 licensed products on the market.

Ranging from plush toys to food and home goods, the movie-related merchandise can be purchased from over 3,000 online and offline outlets.

Meanwhile, souvenir stores are crowded at Shanghai Disneyland's Zootopia themed land, with hats, plush toys, and collectibles seeing steady demand from visitors.

"China's film industry is no longer defined by box office revenue alone. It has become a new growth engine that links and energizes multiple cultural sectors. At the heart of every successful film is strong storytelling. High-quality productions create cultural value, which in turn enhances the commercial value of intellectual property and opens up new consumption opportunities. I believe China's film industry delivered an outstanding performance in the past year," said Chen Xiaoda, vice dean of Shanghai Vancouver Film School.
