A rich array of cultural activities has been held across China to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, such as the iconic dragon boat races, making zongzi, and art performances.

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday to commemorate ancient Chinese poet Qu Yuan from the Warring States Period (475-221 B.C.). Celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, the festival falls on May 31 this year.

In Jiangmen City of south China's Guangdong Province, a dragon boat race involving 36 teams from around the world was held on Saturday, packing the banks of the local Tanjiang River with spectators.

A wetland park in Nanling County of east China's Anhui Province has also hosted an exhilarating 500m straight dragon boat race during the three-day holiday ending Monday, attracting a lot of visitors to the park.

In Changsha, capital city of central China's Hunan Province, a fun race using inflatable "land dragon boats" was held on Sunday at the Daze Lake Wetland Park, engaging many visitors in the activity and creating a lively atmosphere with cheerful laughters at the park.

The park has also set up an interactive game area and a cultural fair, where visitors can play doucao games, make lacquer fans, and learn how to wrap zongzi, a traditional food of the Duanwu Festival made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings.

In Shijiazhuang, capital city of north China's Hebei Province, various dancing performances, such as dragon dances and lion dances, have been staged at the Zhengding ancient city during the holiday, presenting a lively feast for the eyes of the visitors.

"I think this show provides us the opportunity to learn about the history of the Zhengding ancient city as well as the outstanding traditional Chinese culture. The performances are all amazing and beautiful," said a visitor.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf warned on Sunday that Tehran would view the United States and Israel's military bases and facilities in the Middle East as "legitimate targets" should Washington take military action against Iran.

At a parliamentary session convened to review an emergency proposal on assembly regulations, Qalibaf emphasized that, at this highly sensitive juncture, Iran must accurately and thoroughly identify the schemes of its adversaries.

Qalibaf said that Iran is currently confronting Israel and the United States simultaneously on four fronts: economic, cognitive, military, and counterterrorism. Of them, the economic warfare and the cognitive and psychological warfare began many years ago and have persisted to this day, growing increasingly complex and intense in recent years.

The remarks came as U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly "seriously considering authorizing a strike" against Iran, taking advantage of its nationwide unrest.

Protests have erupted in several Iranian cities since late December over the sharp fall of the rial and long-standing economic hardship. Iranian authorities have acknowledged the demonstrations and voiced willingness to address economic grievances, while warning against violence and vandalism.

Amid the ongoing protests, deadly clashes have been reported lately between police and what the government described as "rioters." However, no official death toll has been released.

Also on Sunday, Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will address the country's economic situation and political environment in a televised interview later that day.
