China's e-commerce logistics sector continued to grow in May, with both supply and demand in steady rise, industry data showed on Tuesday.
The country's e-commerce logistics index stood at 111.6 points in March, up 1.1 points from a month earlier, according to the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP).
Specifically, the sub-index tracking the total business volume in the sector hit a new high over the past five months, and its year-on-year growth rate exceeded 30 percent for the first time so far this year.
All regions in the country saw an increase in the e-commerce logistics business volume, with the western region showing the largest month-on-month growth.
The rural e-commerce logistics business volume sub-index also hit a new high for this year at 129.6 points, up 0.6 point from the previous month.
Thanks to the consumer goods trade-in program, which encourages consumers to trade in old electronics and household goods for new ones with subsidies or rebates, China saw strong demand for home appliances and communication equipment in May.
The logistics timeliness sub-index reached 101.2 points in the month, exceeding the 100-point mark for the first time so far this year.
Meanwhile, the sub-index tracking e-commerce logistics companies' fill rate also rose month-on-month, indicating continuous improvement of their service efficiency.
"E-commerce logistics companies have kept improving their delivery speed and fulfillment rate, which has boosted consumption recovery," said He Hui, vice president of the CFLP.
