Italian investors are looking to future opportunities in the bilateral trade and investment between China and Italy, said Lorenzo Riccardi, chairman of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce.

Riccardi said frequent official missions between the two countries have signaled growing bilateral interest.

"We can see that China is a key partner for Italy worldwide. We shall mention the increasing number of official missions that we saw from Italy to China and from China to Italy. These show the interest from the Italian government to promote more economic relationship that is very beneficial for our business community and for our companies," he said during an interview with the China Global Television Network (CGTN) on Monday.

Riccardi said Italian importers now focus on high-value Chinese products.

"We shall say that there is definitely a switch on an increased standard of technological development. We shall believe that the trade, the import will be more focusing on these high technology products. We may expect an increase in import and in trade between Italy and the entire far east that is consequent of course to the larger presence of Chinese companies in the entire Asia Pacific," he said.

Riccardi said for Italian traders and investors, the future is in China as the development engine of the whole Asia Pacific region.

"If we look to the future, I consider it is clear that the region that is growing with a different speed is the Asia Pacific, is the far east. This is the region with the largest demography and also with the highest speed of economic growth. And China is the engine of this region, and China is the largest economy in the Asia Pacific. Definitely, Italian companies are aware of these trends. Therefore, for the future, they want to invest where economic growth is perceived. That means Asia and China," he said.
