Dongguan City in south China's Guangdong Province, a well-known lychee producer, has streamlined transportation and customs clearance procedures to ensure the timely delivery of these sweet fruits to international clients.
At a local lychee orchard, workers quickly sort freshly picked lychees. After sorting, the fruits are immediately packed and loaded onto a logistics vehicle that is on standby.
The vehicle then heads directly to the airport, where the lychees are loaded onto a cargo plane and delivered to clients in Singapore the following day.
As the shelf life of freshly harvested lychees is only about two days, in order to achieve “next-day delivery,” express delivery companies deploy personnel directly to orchards to handle on-site customs declarations, with dedicated staff overseeing the process from customs clearance to final delivery.
"Previously, we used a customs transfer process, which took about two to three days for delivery. Now that the procedure has been streamlined, the lychees can be flown directly from the Shenzhen port to Singapore. Lychees picked today can be delivered the next morning, matching the delivery speed for domestic destinations," said Zhao Xiaochuan, head of the international business department at a delivery company.
Guangdong is one of the world’s largest lychee producers, with one out of every three lychees globally coming from the province.
In recent years, Guangdong’s annual lychee exports have exceeded 8,000 tons, accounting for more than 55 percent of China’s total exports.
