After listening to the work report of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee and the provincial government Tuesday morning, Xi affirmed the achievements made by Shanxi in various aspects, and put forward requirements for their future work.

He pointed out that building a national pilot zone of comprehensive reform for the transformation of resource-based economy is a strategic mission the Party Central Committee assigned to Shanxi. It is necessary to put the focus on energy transformation, industrial upgrading, and moderately diversified development.

While shouldering the responsibility for guaranteeing the supply of coal for the country's power generation, Shanxi should also drive the coal industry from low-end to high-end, and upgrade coal products from primary fuel to high-value products, Xi said. At the same time, it is necessary to develop supporting energy sources such as wind power and photovoltaic power generation, and hydrogen energy, so as to build a new type of energy system.

The province should solidly promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, and, based on local conditions, strategically develop emerging and future industries around the development of new quality productive forces, gradually forming a modern industrial system that reflects Shanxi's characteristics and has comparative advantages, Xi said.

He called for optimizing the business environment, stimulating the vitality of business entities, and better transforming resource advantages into development advantages.

Xi emphasized that transformational development must firmly adhere to the bottom line of safety and stability. It is necessary to focus on stabilizing employment, enterprises, markets, and expectations, and strengthen key livelihood services and ensure the basic living needs of people in difficulty.

It is necessary to ensure overall social stability, effectively maintain ecological security, guard against accidents, and make preparations for this flood season, according to Xi.

Xi also underscored the necessity to promote comprehensive and strict Party governance at the meeting.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday warned that his country would respond harshly to any act of aggression, following a renewed threat of military action from U.S. President Donald Trump.

He made the statement on social media platform X following comments by Trump on Monday, who threatened Iran with a major military strike if it resumed its ballistic missile or nuclear weapons programs.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran's response to any cruel aggression would be harsh and regret-inducing," Pezeshkian said.

Trump, speaking to reporters in Florida while welcoming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said Monday: "Now I hear that Iran is trying to build up again, and if they are, we're going to have to knock them down."

In response, Ali Shamkhani, a political advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and representative in the country's Defense Council, posted on X that Iran's missile and defense capabilities "are not containable or permission-based".

"Any aggression will face an immediate harsh response beyond its planners' imagination," he added.

Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated after a series of strikes in June. On June 13, Israel launched airstrikes on several locations in Iran, including nuclear and military sites, killing senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians. On June 22, U.S. forces bombed the Iranian nuclear facilities at Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan.
