Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang has urged the United States to view China's development in a correct way and work toward a stable and mutually beneficial economic and trade relationship during his meeting with former U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson in Beijing on Thursday.

Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that Chinese President Xi Jinping lately held phone talks with U.S. President Donald Trump at the latter's request, during which the two heads of state reached important consensus.

The strengthening of bilateral cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation is conducive to the steady and sound development of China-U.S. relations and serves the interests of both countries and the wider world, Ding said.

Noting that China represents the greatest source of certainty in today's turbulent world, Ding expressed the hope that the U.S. side will view China's development in a correct way, respect China's core interests and major concerns, develop mutually beneficial and stable economic and trade relations with China, and jointly assume the responsibilities of major countries.

Extending welcome to the Paulson Institute and U.S. companies for cooperation in China, Ding encouraged them to play a positive role in advancing mutual trust and cooperation between the two sides.

For his part, Paulson said that as U.S.-China relations bear on global economic stability and development, both sides should enhance communication and increase mutual understanding. He expressed his readiness to contribute to this effort.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) released its latest World Oil Outlook 2050 on Sunday, projecting a 23-percent increase in global energy demand by mid-century.

The report emphasizes that meeting this rising demand and tackling associated challenges will require a comprehensive approach leveraging all forms of energy, advanced technologies, and broad social engagement.

According to the outlook, oil will remain the largest single source of energy through 2050, accounting for just under 30 percent of the global energy mix. Combined, oil and natural gas are expected to sustain a majority share of the world's energy consumption, representing more than half of the total between 2024 and 2050.

The report highlights a stark regional divide in energy trends as nearly all of the projected growth in energy demand will come from developing countries. In contrast, energy consumption in developed nations is expected to remain flat or decline over the same period.
