China's summer movie season has raked in over 3.5 billion yuan (about 488 million U.S. dollars) so far this year, as cinemas across the country have continued to draw crowds with a diverse mix of films.

According to online platforms, total box office revenue for the 2025 summer season, which runs from June to August, reached 3.5 billion yuan by 16:55 on Thursday, including advance ticket sales.

This year's lineup features more than 60 films from home and abroad, offering audience diverse options ranging from historical dramas and thrillers to animation, science fiction, and action movies.

For domestic productions, comedies, mysteries, and animated films dominate the schedule, catering to a wide range of tastes among moviegoers.

The surge in cinema attendance also reflects the momentum of China Film Consumption Year, which was officially launched in April by the National Film Administration in partnership with other departments.

It aims to leverage the cultural appeal of cinema to boost consumer spending and drive economic growth.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil issued a statement on Saturday, saying that the security alert released by the U.S. Department of State regarding Venezuela is based on false claims that do not exist and is intended to create a perception of risk that is not real.

According to the statement posted on Gil's official X account, Venezuela is currently in a state of absolute calm, peace and stability.

All residential areas, transportation routes, checkpoints and security facilities in the country are functioning normally, and all armed forces nationwide are under the government's control.

The statement came after the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs on Saturday warned that as international flights have resumed, U.S. citizens in Venezuela "should leave the country immediately."
