Russia is in favor of holding the third round of talks with Ukraine, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said in Moscow on Monday, noting that the draft memorandums submitted by the two sides are "diametrically opposed" in their positions.
He said that Russia and Ukraine each have handed over a draft memorandum for a potential settlement of the conflict between the two sides, but the drafts are diametrically opposed so far.
The two sides need to exchange views and negotiate on the two drafts, Peskov said.
The third round of talks between Ukraine and Russia are planned for Wednesday in Türkiye, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy quoted Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian delegation for the talks, as saying on Monday.
The Russian side has not yet confirmed the date for the negotiations.
Russia and Ukraine held two rounds of direct talks on May 16 and June 2 in Istanbul, Türkiye. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously said that both sides agreed to hold a third round of talks after the completion of the exchange of prisoners of war and the transfer of bodies of fallen soldiers as negotiated in previous talks.
