The Philippines has taken precautionary measures to mitigate the impacts of Typhoon Co-May, the eighth typhoon of the year.

Typhoon Co-May made the landfall Thursday night in the town of Agno in the Philippines's Pangasinan Province. At around 05:10 Friday morning, Co-May made its second landfall in the Philippines's Ilocos Sur Province.

Co-May has prompted an escalated windstorm warning across several regions in the Philippines, including La Union Province, due to anticipated rough seas and towering waves.

At a beach of La Union, a renowned surfing destination in the country, patrol officers of the local government have urged tourists to evacuate the coastline.

Residents have built sand barriers and reinforced their homes to reduce the impact of storm surges on coastal structures and facilities.

A beach-side restaurant manager said their operations are disrupted by Co-May.

"The business in here is really really big affected by the typhoon because as you can see here we don't have a guest. We don't have a customer for the restaurants. Now our establishment is actually [only] establishment in the area. We need to prepare for the typhoon, for the coming of typhoon, because according to the PAGASA (the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration) it's really strong. Sometimes the wave reaches there. As you can see, they deform the sand already," said Mar De Guzman, a restaurant manager.

The Philippines experiences a series of three tropical storms in days. Heavy rains and severe floods amid the storms have already left up to 25 people dead and eight missing as of Friday.

In a report released on Friday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that a total of 1,065,779 families, or approximately 3,849,624 people, have been affected nationwide by flooding and landslides due to relentless rain dumped by storms and monsoon.
