China's 15th National Games is going to be held in 19 cities and regions and all related venues have finished renovation, said Tong Lixin, deputy director of the 15th National Games Organizing Committee and deputy head of the General Administration of Sport of China.
These cities and regions include Guangzhou, Shenzhen, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the Macao SAR, Tong said at a press conference hosted by the State Council Information Office on Friday to brief the preparatory works about the 15th National Games.
Events will be mainly be held in south China's Guangdong Province, while engaging Hong Kong and Macao, said Tong.
"In line with the principle of 'Guangdong as the core, with priority given to Hong Kong and Macao,' competition events have been allocated across 19 cities and regions, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao, based on the unique characteristics of each city and region and the strengths of individual venues, while fully respecting the will of Hong Kong and Macao. Hong Kong will host eight competitive sports events and one mass participation event. Macao will host four competitive sports events and one mass participation event," said Tong.
"Renovation work on all venues has now been completed, and the full event schedule has been officially released. More than half of the 68 planned test events have already finished. Meanwhile, mass participation events are gaining momentum, with over one million people taking part in preliminary rounds and the popular 'I Want to Join the National Games' activities. The vibrant scenes of 'competitions in every week' have energized the public and created growing excitement for the Games, offering a vivid depiction of the event's spirit: 'National Games for all, benefiting all,'" he said.
The National Games, held every four years, is the nation's highest level and largest multi-sports event. The 2025 Games will be jointly hosted by Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao from Nov 9 to 21.
