A group of wild macaques were spotted swimming across a river and scaling a steep cliff in a rare sighting captured on camera in Huaning County of southwest China's Yunnan Province.
The footage, taken in Qinglong Township by local forest rangers during a routine patrol, showed the macaque troop, led by their alpha, swiftly crossing the Nanpan River.
Shortly afterward, the monkeys were seen climbing and leaping across the rocks on a near-vertical cliff along the riverbank with remarkable agility.
The growing macaque population in the area reflects the steady improvement of the local ecological environment in recent years.
