The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' attempts to introduce textbooks with separatism content in Taiwan will face firm opposition and condemnation from compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, Chen Binhua, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

The DPP authorities have demanded that 13 supplementary teaching materials that include contents of separatism be used in the new semester starting in September. Public opinion on the island has criticized this move as seriously harming the cognition of Taiwan's young people and cross-Strait relations.

Chen said such act distorts the facts, and will be condemned by compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

"The DPP authorities have stubbornly clung to their separatist stance, vigorously promoting 'de-sinicization' and distorting facts in total disregard of history. By using such textbooks, they attempt to sever the cross-Strait historical and cultural ties, and cause confusion of historical facts in the minds of the young people in Taiwan, and distort their national identity. Such perverse and traitorous acts will surely be met with resolute opposition and condemnation from compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Those who abuse their power in the education sector to distort and tamper with the fact that Taiwan is part of China will definitely be punished," said the spokesman.
