Volunteers from universities in north China's Tianjin Municipality are gearing up for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit set to be held in the city next weekend, ready to provide quality services while showcasing the city's history and culture to international visitors.

Scheduled for Aug 31 to Sept 1, the SCO Tianjin summit will bring together leaders from over 20 countries and representatives of 10 international organizations for a series of high-level events.

During the summit, over 900 young volunteers from 10 local universities including Tianjin University, Nankai University and Tianjin Foreign Studies University will take on roles such as guest reception, venue greeting and seeing-off, ID registration and material distribution.

To better serve the summit, over 300 volunteers working in the media center have participated in comprehensive and rigorous training. The training focused on essential skills such as foreign affairs etiquette, media reception and emergency response.

Through rounds of drills, the volunteers have gained better understanding of their responsibilities, ensuring them to offer efficient services across a range of areas, including reservation consultation, media assistance, press releases, exhibition and presentations.

The volunteers on the translation team visited museum and cultural venues in the city to familiarize themselves with the historical context of the exhibits, enabling them to engage in substantial cultural exchanges through translation services. They also reviewed and proofread signs and logos in foreign languages to ensure they are clear and standardized for easier understanding by international guests.

"During the summit, I believe we can use foreign languages as a bridge for communication, showcase Tianjin's unique charm, and contribute our youthful energy," said Pan Lulu, a volunteer.
