Dialogue and negotiations are the only viable way out for the Ukraine crisis, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Friday, in commenting on the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine.

In response to a question related to the event, Guo reaffirmed China's position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict at a press briefing in Beijing, noting that dialogue and negotiation are the only viable solution to the Ukraine crisis.

"In terms of the Ukraine crisis, China always believe that dialogue and negotiation provides the only viable solution to resolving the issue. We call on all relevant parties to observe three principles for deescalating the situation, namely 'no spillover of the battlefield, no escalation of fighting and no fire-stoking by any party,' to accumulate conditions for promoting a political settlement of the crisis," said the spokesman.

Russia pounded Ukraine with deadly missiles and drone strikes early on Thursday in a sweeping attack. At least 23 people were killed in the capital, Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, said on Telegram. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko described it as one of the biggest attacks on the city in recent months.
