At the seventh China-Arab States Expo that opened on Thursday in Yinchuan of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China and Arab countries have agreed to deepen their cooperation in meteorology.

Officials announced that China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will jointly establish a meteorological satellite data application center, focusing on building a data-sharing framework and planning technical pathways for remote sensing applications.

China will also collaborate with Jordan to develop an early warning system tailored to local conditions. By leveraging high-performance computing resources, AI-based meteorological models, and early warning algorithms, the system will enable effective deployment and application of extreme weather warnings across various scenarios.

The new cooperation initiatives are expected to enhance Arab countries' capacity of forecasting and early warning of extreme weather events, and promote the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the meteorological sector across the Arab region.

"We need to join hands with our counterparts in other countries to build a collaborative network, through which technology, knowledge, and experience can be shared, so that we can achieve the full coverage of early warnings," said Zeng Qin, director of the department of international cooperation at the China Meteorological Administration.

For years, China has been committed to enhancing international meteorological cooperation, making significant contributions to disaster prevention, climate change response and sustainable economic and social development.

Now the data platform based on China's homegrown Fengyun meteorological satellites has been connected to 17 Arab countries, providing 40 types of products across four major categories, offering high-frequency, customized monitoring services for Arab countries.

Themed "Innovation, Green Development, Prosperity," the seventh China-Arab States Expo, which will run from Thursday to Sunday, features trade dialogs and exhibitions in traditional areas like economy, energy and agriculture, while covering emerging fields such as green development, healthcare and smart technology.

First held in 2013, the biennial expo has become an important platform for China and the Arab states to promote pragmatic cooperation and advance high-quality collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative.
