The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has been widely recognized as a dynamic and efficient platform for multilateral cooperation, with international political figures highlighting its robust growth and increasing global attractiveness.

The northern Chinese port city of Tianjin is hosting the largest-ever Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit on Sunday and Monday.

Ahead of the summit, multiple international political figures noted that the organization has successfully pioneered a path of peaceful development and a new model of cooperation, ensuring shared security, prosperity, and benefits for all SCO-related nations.

"The SCO has fully demonstrated its effectiveness as a cooperative platform. It enables in-depth dialogue, consultation, and exchanges among numerous countries, allowing them to identify mutually acceptable and beneficial collaboration opportunities. It stands as a model for international organizations," Deputy Minister of Foreign Fffairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Meder Abakirov said.

"The SCO has maintained robust energy and vitality. During China's presidency, it has injected new momentum into collaboration among member states. This is highly significant for Kyrgyzstan as we are preparing to assume the rotating presidency," Minister of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic Ayaz Baetov said.

The organization's appeal was further underscored by Kabuljon Sabirov, director of the Center for Public Diplomacy of the SCO in Uzbekistan, who attributed the SCO's achievements to the core principle of the "Shanghai Spirit."

"The achievements of the SCO are rooted in its core principle, the 'Shanghai Spirit.' The six key tenets, namely mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diverse civilizations, and pursuit of common development, have made it highly attractive. The number of countries willing to join has continued to grow each year," he said.

Magdy Amer, former Egyptian Ambassador to China and a member of the Egypt-China Friendship Association Council, spoke highly of the strong alignment between the SCO's economic agenda and major Chinese initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative.

"The organization, it's developing every year and China is playing the main role in this. And actually we look for China to continue that," he said.

The multilateral system is "under attack" amid global turmoil, President of the 80th UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock warned in her remarks on Wednesday.

In her briefing on the priorities for the resumed 80th Session of the General Assembly, the UNGA president noted that the current multilateral system does not collapse all in a sudden, but "crumbles piece by piece" in divisions, compromises, and lack of political commitment.

The president called all the UN member states to defend the UN Charter and international law and promote cross-regional cooperation.

She also urged to push forward the work of the UNGA on certain critical issues with a strong majority, rather than an absolute consensus among all member states. Such act is not a failure of multilateralism, but "an affirmation of it," she said.

The foundational principles of the institution should not be eroded by appeasement, she said, calling the member states to show courage, leadership, and responsibility at the UN's "critical make-or-break moment."

"The UN needs you. Your support, your leadership, your principle, stand, your cross-regional cooperation, if we are to preserve and modernize this institution, if we are to make it, rather than break it," she said.
