China will trial a visa-free policy for ordinary Russian passport holders for a year, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun announced at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

"To further facilitate people-to-people exchanges between China and other countries, China has decided to expand the scope of countries eligible for visa-free entry. From September 15, 2025 to September 14, 2026, China will implement a trial visa-free policy for ordinary Russian passport holders. Russian citizens holding ordinary passports can be exempted from visa to enter China and stay for no more than 30 days for business, tourism, family and friends visits, and exchanges," said the spokesman.

"Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Russia relations have maintained high-level development. China attaches great importance to facilitating people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, supports enhanced interactions between the two peoples, and makes positive contributions to advancing the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era. We welcome more Russian friends to visit China more often," said Guo.
