Pear distributors in Korla City, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, have introduced advanced digital technology to sort their products more efficiently and accurately, bringing higher standards to the renowned specialty industry.

In Korla City, located in the Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang, the cultivation of fragrant pears dates back over 2,000 years. The region's abundant sunshine and dramatic temperature swings between day and night contribute to the pears' signature traits: a crisp texture, juicy flesh, and rich aroma.

Today, the quality of these renowned pears is reaching new heights thanks to smart agricultural technologies.

Local industry leader Fan Aiping introduced an advanced intelligent sorting system that carefully assesses each pear in multiple dimensions - from skin to core - to ensure it meets high standards.

"Manually assessing the weight, color, sugar content, or even the internal quality of the fruit is often not very precise. That's why we introduced the first digital intelligent sorting system in the fragrant pear industry. This system surpasses the accuracy achievable by manual sorting. Through this advanced intelligent sorting, the pear's red blush, weight, taste, and sugar content can be optimized to perfection through machine selection. This ensures that the title of 'the treasure among fruits, the king of pears,' as is known by consumers, is well-deserved. The people of Korla have long taken pride in the high reputation of Korla fragrant pears among consumers. That's why Korla is known as the 'City of Pears'," Fan said.

Fan said she wants to improve the quality of the pear products to the largest extent, using tradition and innovation together to preserve the true flavor of Xinjiang.

"Korla fragrant pears have been cultivated for some 2,000 years. They are crisp, juicy, and delicately textured. This quality is widely acclaimed both domestically and internationally. My hope is to elevate the Korla fragrant pear brand to even greater heights, ensuring the highest possible quality for our products, so that when they enter the international market, they are truly flawless," she said.

The multilateral system is "under attack" amid global turmoil, President of the 80th UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock warned in her remarks on Wednesday.

In her briefing on the priorities for the resumed 80th Session of the General Assembly, the UNGA president noted that the current multilateral system does not collapse all in a sudden, but "crumbles piece by piece" in divisions, compromises, and lack of political commitment.

The president called all the UN member states to defend the UN Charter and international law and promote cross-regional cooperation.

She also urged to push forward the work of the UNGA on certain critical issues with a strong majority, rather than an absolute consensus among all member states. Such act is not a failure of multilateralism, but "an affirmation of it," she said.

The foundational principles of the institution should not be eroded by appeasement, she said, calling the member states to show courage, leadership, and responsibility at the UN's "critical make-or-break moment."

"The UN needs you. Your support, your leadership, your principle, stand, your cross-regional cooperation, if we are to preserve and modernize this institution, if we are to make it, rather than break it," she said.
