Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who observed China's grand military parade from the Tian’anmen Rostrum on Sept 3 in Beijing, described the event as a resolute response to hegemonic provocations in an interview with China Media Group aired on Friday.

Diaz-Canel said that the parade, held to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, underscored the Chinese people's immense sacrifices in defeating Japanese invaders during World War II. He also noted its significance in countering attempts by some Western countries to distort historical truths.

"Yesterday's experience at the Tiananmen Rostrum left a deep impression on me. I deeply admire the commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and I'm deeply inspired by the move of the Communist Party of China to steadfastly defend historical memory. At this critical juncture, certain Western powers, particularly those pursuing hegemony and control over the world, are attempting to rewrite, distort and manipulate history. Yesterday's commemorations not only highlighted the tremendous sacrifices of the Chinese people in their fight against Japanese invaders, but also emphasized the true significance of their tenacious resistance and China's significant contribution to the global anti-fascist struggle. This stance is highly consistent with China's unwavering commitment in the international community to preventing the recurrence of historical mistakes and calling for drawing lessons from history," he said.

Diaz-Canel said the military parade showed China's achievements in defense science and technology, posing a great deterrent to wanton acts of imperialism and boosting confidence of Global South and small developing countries.

"The military parade not only showed the majestic beauty, rigorous order, and exceptional organization of the Chinese military, but also demonstrated China's military strength to the world and reflected the profound transformation and development achievements of China's armed forces in science, technology and military affairs. Faced with hegemonic provocations, China has responded firmly, building a solid barrier and exerting a powerful military deterrent, which is sufficient to deter the reckless actions of imperialism. I firmly believe that this has injected strong confidence in many countries, especially those in the Global South and small developing countries," he said.

The Cuban president also spoke highly of Chinese President Xi Jinping's speech at the event, saying that it shows Xi's insight into global governance and his vision of building a community with a shared future featuring equitable development among all countries.

"I think the speech delivered by His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China, is imbued with profound theoretical implications. He systematically expounded on a series of concepts that profoundly demonstrate his insight into the mechanisms and governance of the world and into how countries should work together. These concepts embody his grand vision of building a community with a shared future that rejects hegemony, opposes unilateral sanctions, and provides all countries with equal space for development. In this community, solidarity, cooperation and multilateralism reign supreme, and the UN Charter is strictly adhered to. I firmly believe that this demonstrates China's guiding role in international relations," he said.

China's securities regulator has pledged to prioritize market stability and resolutely prevent sharp fluctuations as a core objective for 2026, aiming to consolidate sound development of the capital market.

The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) made the commitment at its annual work conference on Thursday, where the regulator reviewed the past year's performance and outlined key tasks for 2026.

In 2025, listed companies distributed a combined total of 2.68 trillion yuan (about 380 billion U.S. dollars) in cash dividends and share buybacks throughout the year, further consolidating the momentum for high-quality development.

Initial public offerings (IPOs) and follow-on offerings reached a combined 1.26 trillion yuan, while the exchange bond market issued various bonds totaling 16.3 trillion yuan.

Eighteen futures and options products were smoothly listed, demonstrating the robust functioning of the multi-tiered capital market.

The meeting emphasized that while the capital market currently shows stable and sound performance, it still faces complex and severe challenges posed by intertwined domestic and external risks as well as the overlapping of persisting and emerging issues.

Efforts will be made to effectively enhance the intrinsic stability of the market, the CSRC said, adding that it will rigorously investigate and punish excessive speculation, market manipulation, and other illegal activities to prevent sharp market fluctuations.

It will work to foster a market ecosystem where "long-term capital engages in long-term investment," the regulator said, pledging efforts to broaden the channels for medium and long-term capital inflows, introduce various products and risk management tools suited to long-term investment, and actively guide long-term, rational and value-based investment.

It also vowed to enhance the inclusiveness and adaptability of the multi-tiered equity market, crack down on illegal activities such as financial fraud, price manipulation and insider trading, and enhance corporate governance among listed firms.

The CSRC will advance the two-way opening up of the capital market in 2026.

Efforts will be made to expedite the implementation of the optimized Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor scheme, expand the scope of futures products accessible to foreign investors, and enhance the facilitation of cross-border investment and financing, the regulator said.
