Chinese President Xi Jinping has stressed the importance of carrying forward revolutionary traditions and boosting farmers' incomes through all-around rural revitalization during an inspection tour in Meizhou City in south China's Guangdong Province. Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the statement on his inspection tour in Meizhou on Friday, followed by a visit to the provincial capital city of Guangzhou on Saturday.

On Friday afternoon, Xi visited the Ye Jianying memorial park in Meizhou City.

The memorial park honors Ye Jianying (1897-1986), a late Chinese Communist revolutionary leader and former chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and one of the Ten Marshals of the People's Republic of China. Meizhou City is his native home.

Xi laid a flower basket at the statue of Ye and toured an exhibition dedicated to the revolutionary predecessor. He also visited Ye's former residence.

Xi noted that all of China's great achievements today are built on the foundation laid by Mao Zedong and other older generation revolutionaries, calling for efforts to educate and guide officials and the public, especially young people, to carry forward revolutionary traditions.

Xi also toured a pomelo growing base where he was briefed on Guangdong's efforts to step up support for old revolutionary base areas and advance all-around rural revitalization, among others.

He checked on the growth of pomelo, reviewed processed and cultural-creative products derived from the fruit, and had conversations with the farmers and agricultural technicians.

Xi pointed out that developing rural specialty industries is fundamental to promoting comprehensive rural revitalization.

He called for stronger application of science and technology, integration of agriculture with culture and tourism, extension of industrial chains and increase of added value of the product, so as to help more farmers increase their incomes.

Xi also instructed local Party committees and governments to further strengthen policy support for the development of old revolutionary base areas.

Prior to his departure, Xi wished happy and beautiful lives of villagers.

U.S. President Donald Trump said he is strongly considering pulling the United States out of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) after the alliance failed to join the attacks on Iran, The Telegraph reported on Wednesday.

When asked if he would reconsider America's membership in the alliance after the conflict, he said the question is "beyond reconsideration," adding, "I was never swayed by NATO. I always knew they were a paper tiger."

Trump also expressed dissatisfaction with NATO for "not being there," saying it was "actually hard to believe."

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Trump would make a decision on the future of NATO given the fact that some U.S. allies refuse to provide support, after the end of U.S. military operations against Iran.

Following Trump's criticism, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he is not changing his position on the war.

Multiple European countries have kept their distance from the conflict with Iran. Starmer on Monday said his country will not get dragged into the conflict "whatever the pressure and whoever it's coming from," while Spain on Monday closed its airspace to all flights related to the U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran.
