The development achievements and trends of China's thriving power battery industry were unveiled at the 2025 World Power Battery Conference, which opened Wednesday in Yibin City, southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The China Battery Industry Association reviewed the top ten achievements of technological innovation the country made during 2020-2025, while the China Society of Automotive Engineers released its projection about where the industry will be head in eight aspects.

The ten innovative achievements cover breakthroughs across the entire power battery industry chain. They include a stable global supply chain for key materials such as cathodes and anodes, improved zero-carbon factory construction and recycling systems, the establishment of a regulatory and standard system that covers the entire life cycle of batteries, and the promotion of mutual recognition of domestic and international standards.

"We used to play catch-up with other countries, and now we are a frontrunner in the industry. The development of China's power battery sector has been underpinned by hundreds of achievements and thousands of global patents. Going forward, we will move beyond power batteries and realize the application of our lithium batteries in energy storage, shipping, AI, and low-altitude economy. The economic prospects are very promising," said Wang Jianxin, vice president of the China Battery Industry Association.

Among the eight major development trends in power batteries, material innovation will propel advances toward higher energy density and cost-effectiveness. The solid-liquid hybrid battery is accelerating its market transformation, while all-solid-state batteries are achieving technological breakthroughs and initiating industrial demonstrations.

The 2025 World Power Battery Conference has brought together industry representatives, experts as well as over 100 Chinese and foreign companies, including China's CATL, BYD and France's Dassault Systemes.

The conference has been held annually since 2022 in Yibin, a major power battery production base where one out of every ten power batteries produced globally is manufactured.

Currently, Yibin's planned power battery production capacity has exceeded 300 GWh, with 210 GWh already established. This has created a green closed-loop industrial chain that encompasses upstream raw materials, six core components including cathodes and anodes, power battery cells, entire new energy vehicles, and battery recycling and reuse.

A Chinese mainland spokeswoman on Wednesday denounced Taiwan authorities led by Lai Ching-te for ignoring the heinous crimes committed by Japan during its colonial rule over Taiwan, describing their flattering remarks toward Japan as utterly disgraceful.

Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks at a press conference in response to a media inquiry about Lai's intention to work with Japan to "deal with regional challenges."

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated its position on Japan's Lower House election. We demand the Japanese side fully recognize the highly sensitive nature of the Taiwan question, strictly adhere to the one-China principle and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, retract Takaichi's erroneous remarks on Taiwan, handle Taiwan-related matters with caution, and uphold the one-China principle with concrete actions. The Lai Ching-te authorities disregard the heinous crimes committed by Japan during its colonial rule over Taiwan and instead use this chance to spread fallacy to please Japan. Their servile and obsequious behavior is truly disgraceful," she said.
