The Beijing Daxing International Airport, a major aviation hub, has set a new record as of Saturday by handling over 50 million passenger trips in a year for the first time since its opening in 2019, according to the latest official data released by the airport on Sunday.

As of Saturday, the airport had managed a total of 322,500 flights and handled 50.08 million passenger trips this year, up 6.31 percent and 8.41 percent, respectively, compared to the same period in 2024. The number of international and regional passenger trips reached nearly 5.5 million, a substantial year-on-year increase of 25.39 percent.

The airport's growing passenger numbers are supported by a continuously expanding route network. It now hosts 70 domestic and international airlines operating nearly 190 routes to about 180 destinations across 25 countries in Asia, Europe, and Africa.

Several new international routes have been launched or resumed this year, including services to Casablanca, Bandar Seri Begawan, the Ho Chi Minh City, Dushanbe, and Muscat. Chinese carriers like China Southern, China Eastern, Xiamen Air, and China United have initiated over 30 international through-flight services from Daxing.

The airport has also introduced inter-airline through-check services for international routes, allowing seamless baggage transfer and single-ticket journeys. From January to November, international transfer passengers at Daxing exceeded 840,000, with 78 percent utilizing these through-check services.

As Beijing's youngest airport, the Beijing Daxing International Airport began operation on September 25, 2019, with a terminal area of 700,000 square meters, four runways and 268 aircraft stands.

Most booths have been set up and the exhibit installation is underway at the main venue of the upcoming sixth China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) as of Saturday, which will be held in south China's Hainan Province from April 13 to 18.

In the coming days, exhibitors will fine-tune their displays in anticipation of consumers and buyers.

According to organizers, this year's expo will cover 143,000 square meters of exhibition space, an increase of 13,000 square meters from the previous edition. It will feature eight exhibition halls, with the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center in Haikou City serving as the main venue. Additional sub-venues for international yachts and international healthcare will be set up in the cities of Sanya and Boao, respectively.

More than 3,400 brands from over 60 countries and regions across the world have registered to participate. A series of promotional activities themed "Shopping in China" will also be held during the expo.

"For now, the internationalization rate of our exhibits has increased by 20 percent compared to last year, with international brands accounting for about 65 percent and domestic brands around 35 percent. Many domestic brands are also expanding their products overseas," said Liu Peng, assistant director of the Hainan Provincial International Economic Development Bureau.

Jointly hosted by China's Ministry of Commerce and the Hainan provincial government, the sixth expo marks the first edition of the event since the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) fully launched island-wide special customs operations in December last year.
