Business leaders from Taiwan attending the 2025 Cross-Strait CEO Summit this week emphasized the tangible benefits and strategic advantages of deepening economic integration with the Chinese mainland.
The summit, held from Tuesday to Wednesday in Nanjing, the capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, gathered some 800 entrepreneurs and industry experts from both sides of the Taiwan Strait to explore pathways for deepening the integration of industrial and supply chains. The two-day annual event, focusing on industrial transformation, innovation, and collaboration, was convened as China prepares to enter its 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).
Lee Cheng-hung, president of the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland, expressed strong optimism about collaborative prospects in frontier industries.
"I am particularly impressed by this year's summit. The discussions have centered on key areas prioritized in the nation's 15th Five-Year Plan, especially artificial intelligence, as well as low-carbon and green energy initiatives. If entrepreneurs from both sides of the Strait can join hands and achieve deep integration in these two major fields by reinforcing, strengthening, and extending our industrial chains, I believe we can create absolutely complementary advantages and secure a significant position on the global stage," he said.
Lee also criticized the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in Taiwan for their political maneuvers.
"I consider the deliberate political manipulation and promotion of so-called 'resistance against and exclusion of the mainland' by the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in Taiwan to be highly unwise. Should such actions lead to geopolitical tensions, it would be extremely detrimental to economic development and the future well-being of the people on both sides of the Strait," Lee said.
The sentiment was echoed by Pan Jhong-guang, chairman of LumiCore Technology, who shared a concrete example of successful synergy.
"We have been operating here for five years. The design of our chips was entirely completed at Shanghai University, while our OLED components were developed in Taiwan. Through our cross-Strait collaboration, we have produced a product with a yield rate five times higher than that of Japanese counterparts, which also means our costs are one-fifth of theirs. This is a clear manifestation of new quality productive forces. During the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period, I believe our integration will become even closer, enabling us to take the lead globally and make our smart glasses the best in the world," Pan said.
The summit provides a platform for business figures from both sides of the Strait to pursue sustained economic cooperation, highlighting how integrated industrial chains and shared innovation are driving competitiveness and creating mutual prosperity.
