China is firmly opposed to the U.S. arbitrary levy of tariffs to hold back Chinese industries groundlessly, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

Lin made the remarks after the United States announced its intended imposition of tariffs on China's semiconductor industry, which will take effect in 2027.

"China firmly opposes the U.S. arbitrary levying tariffs and suppressing Chinese industries groundlessly. The U.S. actions have disrupted the stability of the global industrial and supply chains, hindered the development of the semiconductor industries in countries across the world, and harmed others without benefiting itself. We urge the U.S. to correct its wrongdoings at once, act according to the important common understandings reached between the Chinese and U.S. presidents, uphold the principles of equality, respect and mutual benefit, resolve each other’s concerns through dialogue, properly manage differences, and keep China-U.S. relations on a steady, sound and sustainable track. If the U.S. continues down the wrong path, China will take corresponding measures to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests," said Lin.

The United States has cut its support to Ukraine by 45 billion U.S. dollars in 2025, a Ukrainian media outlet reported on Tuesday.

The report highlighted that the cuts from January to November were 77 times more than those in the same period of the previous year.

It also noted that while other NATO members had significantly increased their support for Ukraine, their combined contributions remained insufficient to offset the sharp reduction in the U.S. aid.

The European Union (EU) has expanded its support for Ukraine recently. In a statement released after a meeting on Friday, the European Council agreed to provide a 90-billion-euro loan to Ukraine for 2026 and 2027. By means of enhanced cooperation, in accordance with Article 20 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU), any mobilization of resources of the EU budget will not impact the financial obligations of Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.
