The Japanese government must take concrete actions and create necessary conditions for ensuring normal exchanges with China, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

Li Jian, the spokesman, made the statement at a press conference in Beijing in commenting on reports about a postponed visit to China by a Japanese business delegation that was originally scheduled for January.

Japan reportedly said the postponement was due to difficulty in achieving a meeting between Japanese business leaders with senior Chinese officials.

The latest development comes amid tense relations between China and Japan which has resulted from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent erroneous remarks on China's Taiwan region.

"We have noticed the relevant reports. We've also noticed that many people with vision in Japan are deeply concerned about the adverse impacts and serious consequences of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's erroneous remarks on Taiwan. We urge the Japanese government to take concrete actions, face up to the root causes of the current situation in China-Japan relations, reflect on and correct its wrongdoings, withdraw Prime Minister Takashi's erroneous remarks, and create necessary conditions for normal exchanges between China and Japan," Li said.

Takaichi on November 7, 2025 made blatant and provocative remarks on Taiwan at the Diet, claiming that a Taiwan contingency could constitute a "survival-threatening situation" for Japan, and implying that Japan might invoke the so-called "right to collective self-defense" for armed intervention across the Taiwan Strait.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian on Wednesday thanked dozens of countries and international organizations that have expressed support for China's position on Taiwan, while firmly reiterating China's unwavering commitment to national sovereignty and opposition to separatist activities.

"Following China's announcement of relevant countermeasures and military exercises, dozens of countries and international organizations have expressed their support for its stance. Key supporters include Russia, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Indonesia, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Laos, Iran, Zimbabwe, Samoa, as well as international bodies such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the African Union (AU). These supporters have affirmed that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair, and they oppose any form of secession. They support China in defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, oppose external interference in China's internal affairs, and commit to adhering to the one-China principle. We highly appreciate the firm support from these countries," Lin said at a press conference in Beijing.

"We must reiterate that China's resolve is firm and unwavering, in safeguarding sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, as in defending national unification and interests, and as in curbing separatist forces from external collusion and bringing chaos to the Taiwan Strait," he said.

He concluded with a stern warning, asserting that "any egregious act of cross-line provocation on the Taiwan question will be met with resolute countermeasures from China, and any sinister attempt to obstruct China's reunification is doomed to fail."
