The New Year speech by the leader of Taiwan region Lai Ching-te was full of lies and hostility, and it could not change the inevitable defeat of the separatist forces, said Chen Binhua, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office on Wednesday.

Chen said at a press conference in Beijing that Lai's remarks exposed his true colors as a saboteur of peace, a troublemaker and a warmonger.

"Lai Ching-te's speech was full of lies and hostility, advocated fallacies of separatism, stoked tensions across the Taiwan Strait, and rehashed the old rhetoric of the so-called 'democracy versus authoritarianism,' attempting to delude the people in Taiwan and mislead international public opinion. Such remarks show his stubborn adherence to the separatist stance and unwavering confrontational mindset, and exposed his true nature as a destroyer of peace, creator of crisis and instigator of war," Chen said.

"Since taking office, Lai has defied the mainstream public opinion in Taiwan, stubbornly adhering to his separatist stance, constantly fabricating fallacies, deliberately escalating cross-strait confrontation. To pursue his own political interests, he has squandered public funds, engaged in war preparation, and tried to turn the island to arms, binding the people to their war chariot, and pushing Taiwan towards a perilous and dangerous situation of war. He has blindly flattered and sold out to external forces, severely damaging the vital interests of the people and businesses in Taiwan. In Taiwan region, the DPP authorities implemented authoritarian rule, wantonly trampled on democracy, undermined the rule of law, restricted freedom, engaged in 'green terror,' and suppressed dissent, creating a 'chilling effect.' How can such a person with such a long list of misdeeds have the right or the audacity to speak of 'democracy,' 'freedom,' 'justice,' and 'unity' ?" said the spokesman.

"No matter what Lai and the DPP authorities say or do, they cannot change the fact that Taiwan is part of China, nor can they alter the inevitable failure of the separatist forces. The complete reunification of China is sure to be realized. We hope that the people in Taiwan can firmly stand on the right side of history, resolutely oppose separatism and foreign interference, and work together to safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, so as to build a bright new future for national rejuvenation and the reunification of the motherland," said Chen.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Friday chaired a State Council executive meeting during which arrangements were made to implement a package of policies that will boost domestic demand by leveraging coordinated fiscal and financial measures.

The meeting noted that the package is an important measure to expand effective demand and innovate the approaches of macro-control.

Efforts should be made to refine loan interest subsidy policies for businesses in the services sector and personal consumption, aiming to expand the supply of high-quality services and boost household purchasing power, the meeting said.

It said that loan interest subsidy policies will be implemented for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, with an eye to bolstering private investment, and to lowering financing thresholds and costs for companies.

It stressed that basic public services should be provided based on an individual's place of permanent residence. Efforts will be made to address the most pressing concerns of permanent residents without a local household registration, and on improving their access to education, healthcare and employment services.
