Crude futures settle higher

Oil prices inched up on Friday.

The West Texas Intermediate for March delivery went up 5 cents, or 0.08 percent, to settle at 62.89 U.S. dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for April delivery gained 23 cents, or 0.34 percent, to settle at 67.75 dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.

The U.S. dollar closed almost flat in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, dropped to 0.01 percent to 96.922 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro climbed to 1.1872 dollars from 1.1866 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was up to 1.365 dollars from 1.3623 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 152.78 Japanese yen, lower than 152.94 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar lost 0.7679 Swiss francs from 0.7697 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.3611 Canadian dollars from 1.3611 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar advanced to 8.9272 Swedish kronor from 8.9226 Swedish kronor.
