New logistics models and services have emerged during the Spring Festival holiday, bringing greater convenience to consumers and reflecting the vitality of the Chinese economy.
Over 30 large logistics warehouses in the Yangtze River Delta in east China have been operating 24 hours a day during the nine-day holiday, which runs through Monday.
Consumers in the region can receive their orders, from holiday gift boxes to daily necessities, at home within just four hours. The logistics landscape during the Spring Festival has shifted from previous years' "suspended deliveries" to a faster-paced model of "same-city instant delivery".
"Last year's 'next-day delivery' has upgraded to this year's 'same-day delivery'. We use big data for forecasting and have stocked over 40,000 high-frequency consumer items for the Spring Festival in our warehouses, shifting logistics from long-distance transport to short-distance, high-frequency distributions within the city," said Jiao Jin, head of the instant delivery operations at an e-commerce company.
During the Spring Festival holiday, trading in old products for new ones has sparked a trend of renewal and recycling.
Latest data shows that recycling volumes during the first eight days of this year's Spring Festival holiday have increased by over 47 percent compared with last year, with electronic products like mobile phones, smartwatches, and earbuds leading the charge. Consumers can now receive financial returns on their old products when purchasing new ones.
"We are working overtime to process a daily average of over 20,000 second-hand mobile phones that come to our sorting center before entering the second-hand circulation market," said Zhang Xuan, head of a recycling operations center.
Experts say that these new models and services reflect the fast upgrade of China’s logistics market and the vitality of the economy.
"China’s smoothly flowing logistics demonstrate the heat of holiday consumption and highlight the vitality and resilience of the Chinese economy," said Xie Yurong, deputy director of the Institute of Comprehensive Transportation under the National Development and Reform Commission.
