A variety of unique natural wonders in scenic spots across China have attracted tourists from all over the country, fueling the tourism boom during the Spring Festival holiday.

The Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year, fell on Feb 17 this year. It is the most important holiday in China, celebrated with family reunions, feasts and wishes for good luck in the coming year.

During the festival, Qinghai Lake scenic area in northwest China’s Qinghai Province has meticulously presented a series of unique landscapes thanks to its natural wonders such as ice cracks. In this popular tourist destination, visitors can watch the spectacular blue ice scenery up close.

The water of the Qinghai Lake freezes slowly under extremely cold conditions, forming a pure and dense ice layer. When sunlight shines on the ice layer, red, orange, and yellow colors are absorbed, while the blue light is scattered and reflected in large quantities, thus making a clear and transparent blue ice spectacle.

"This is our family's first trip to Qinghai from Shanghai. We visited the beautiful Qinghai Lake, enjoyed a lot of local delicacies, and saw herds of cattle and sheep. It's great to have a very happy and fulfilling Chinese New Year here," said a tourist.

To cope with the increasing number of visitors, the scenic area has upgraded its ticketing system to improve entry efficiency. In addition, staff have kept monitoring the ice thickness in tourist areas to closely follow ice conditions and ensure visitor safety.

A unique and spectacular scene was formed on Saturday at the Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province, at an altitude of about 1,300 meters. Sunlight penetrated through the Tianmen Cave, creating a Tyndall effect, as beams of light were projected onto the square in front of the cave, enveloping everyone there.

During the Spring Festival holiday, the scenic area continued to see a peak in visitor traffic, receiving a total of over 150,000 visitors as of Saturday.
