China’s champion snowboarder Su Yiming gets back to work after Winter Olympic glory

Chinese snowboarding star and now two-time Olympic champion Su Yiming is taking little time off from his big success at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics as he gets back down to business with more training back in his homeland.

Su delivered a stunning performance last month when he soared to a superb victory in the final of the men's snowboard slopestyle in the Italian Alpine town of Livigno -- with the win coming on the day of his 22nd birthday on Feb 18.

Now he has returned to his "lucky venue" at the Yunding Ski Park in north China's Hebei Province, the site of his gold medal in the big air competition at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, to resume training after his historic Milan-Cortina victory.

Since it was his first return to the snow after the Games, Su -- who previously gained global fame for becoming the first snowboarder in the world to successfully complete and land a challenging 1980-degree aerial spinal - refrained from attempting any challenging tricks during the session, focusing instead on regaining his rhythm.

In an interview with China Media Group (CMG), Su said he intends to carry the momentum of his gold medal-winning form into his preparations for the upcoming FIS World Cup competitions.

"I am really looking forward to getting back on snow. I hope to maintain my best form when I am at my peak and carry that momentum into the next snow season. I still have a World Cup competition coming up, and it will depend on the schedule between my coach and me. If the timing allows, we will do our best to take part. If we do compete, we will make more detailed preparations for the event," said Su.

After his first training session, Su took the time to interact with spectators who had gathered to watch, with the star athlete also taking a moment to thank the people who helped make his dream possible.

China will raise its retail prices of gasoline and diesel from Tuesday, following a sharp rise in international oil prices, the country's top economic planner said on Monday.

Gasoline and diesel prices will increase by 695 yuan (about 100.5 U.S. dollars) and 670 yuan per tonne, respectively, according to a statement released by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

The NDRC's price monitoring center said that developments in the Middle East will be the key factor influencing global oil price trends in the period ahead.

China's three biggest oil companies -- the China National Petroleum Corporation, the China Petrochemical Corporation, and the China National Offshore Oil Corporation -- and other refineries have been directed to maintain production and facilitate transportation to ensure stable supplies.

Relevant departments in various regions should intensify their market supervision and inspection efforts. They should implement strict measures to crack down on activities that violate national pricing policies to ensure market order, the NDRC said.
