China will launch pilot programs for the construction of high-quality industry datasets to support artificial intelligence applications, an official from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said at a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday.

By the end of 2025, the numerical control rate for key processes in key industrial enterprises had reached 68.6 percent, and a range of industrial 5G chips, modules and terminal products had also been developed, said Wang Yanqing, director of the Information Technology Development Department at MIIT.

"Devices that were once 'dumb' on the factory floor had been transformed into smart sensors, laying a solid foundation for the aggregation and application of industrial data. That's why we are launching the Industrial Data Infrastructure Initiative to pilot the development of high-quality industry datasets this year," Wang said.

Wang outlined what will be done in the next phase, including the rollout of policy documents to empower new industrialization through data as a factor of production, along with reference guidelines for applying data in industrial scenarios. Efforts will also be made to accelerate the development of industrial data standards and expand data service enterprises in fields such as data consulting, data governance and data labeling.

The MIIT will host a thematic session on data empowering new industrialization at an upcoming meeting.

"We aim to achieve six key objectives by the end of this year: to cultivate a cohort of industrial data cooperation alliances, aggregate a portfolio of industry data resources, make breakthroughs in core data technologies, establish a series of industrial data standards, develop multiple high-quality, standardized, and tradable industry datasets, and ultimately drive the deployment of industry-specific large-scale models and industrial AI agents," Wang said.

A residential building in an upscale neighborhood of northern Tehran has been reduced to rubbles following strikes by U.S. and Israeli forces on Tuesday, as security remains tight across the area.

Sepehr Saremi, a correspondent from the China Global Television Network (CGTN) reporting from the scene, described a tense atmosphere with heavy security presence preventing easy access to the site.

"You see behind me this building that was struck by U.S.-Israeli forces. The building has been reduced to rubbles. It's in the north of Tehran. It's an expensive neighborhood," he said.

Saremi noted that security forces, firefighters and first responders are working at the scene to assess the damage and investigate what has occurred. He added that access to the building remains highly restricted and details about the target and any potential casualties have not yet been confirmed.
